Elizabeth Wairimu Njau, the Senior Women’s Softball National Team Captain, embarked on her softball journey in 2016 as a pitcher. In December 2017, she proudly represented Kenya as a pitcher in the East Africa Championship in Mwanza, Tanzania, and was appointed as the Team Captain.
During the 2017-2018 season, she received accolades as the Sports Woman of the Year at Multimedia University and clinched the Top Scorer Award. Her outstanding performance continued into the 2018-2019 season, where she once again earned the title of Sports Woman of the Year at Multimedia University, coupled with the Most Valuable Player Award.
In February 2018, Njau took the helm as the National Team Captain and starting pitcher, leading the Senior Women Softball National Team in a friendly match against Uganda, held at Nazarene University. She displayed her leadership prowess once more in December 2019 when she captained the team in a friendly match against Uganda and Canada, held in Mpigi, Uganda.
The year 2023 witnessed Njau’s remarkable leadership as she guided the Senior Women Softball National Team in the Africa World Cup Qualifiers in Gaborone, Botswana, serving as both captain and starting pitcher. Her exceptional skills have not gone unnoticed, as she has held the title of the best national pitcher since 2018 and continues to lead as the National Softball Women Captain.
Not confined to softball, Njau expanded her horizons by captaining the baseball5 senior team and taking on the role of the 1st base player in the inaugural baseball5 World Cup held in Mexico in 2022. Her journey took yet another triumphant turn as she led the national softball team to Botswana for the Africa World Cup qualifiers, reinforcing her status as a formidable and dedicated leader in the world of sports.
