ANU Continue with Resurgence as Knights Move Closer to Title

Africa Nazarene’s ladies softball team "The Crusaders" continued with their resurgence in the ongoing Metropolitan Softball league after by beating league newcomers Kenyatta University by 7 runs to 3.

Africa Nazarene’s ladies softball team “The Crusaders” continued with their resurgence in the ongoing Metropolitan Softball league after by beating league newcomers Kenyatta University by 7 runs to 3. The Crusaders under the watch of their coach Anyanzwa capitalized on their opponents poor pitching to become eventual victors, the win ensured the Crusaders still have a chance to claim the league.

In other matches played at the same venue, MMU Women’s team “Ladies Stormers” beat reigning league champions USIU Phoenixes by 12 runs to 5 in a thrilling encounter while Kenyatta University Men’s team lost to JKUAT Karen by 11 runs to 14 and MMU Stormers won 15 – 2 against USIU men.

On Sunday, title favorites Knights club thrashed Kenyatta University by 17 runs to 3 at Kenyatta university grounds.The Knights team outplayed their opponents in all the four innings played to claim the victory and according to one of Knights players, Kenyatta University were lucky not concede more runs. In the second match of the day MMU ladies team “ladies Stormers” faced Kenyatta Universities ladies team in a thrilling encounter which ended in 4-3 score in favour on the Rongai Based MMU.

The last match of the day was contested between MMU men’s team “Stormers” and The Knights club in what was termed as the league decider. By sheer coincidence it was a match between two strong teams in the metropolitan league and the two teams were close enough on points for the match to act as a decider for the Metropolitan title. The knights’ team needed just a win to temporarily claim the title and so was the Stormers.

Despite impressive performance by the Stormers team, The knights softball club won the match by 16 runs to 14 giving them the first silverware since the club was formed in 2012 .

The league takes a short break to give room for The Ryderz Inaugural softball Tournament scheduled for the 29th and 30th June 2013 at JKUAT Main Campus Juja.

The Metropolitan league activities will resume on 6th June 2013 at Africa Nazarene University Main campus in Rongai.
